From the pilot episode of the series, Superstore was more than a workplace comedy with the first hints of Amy and Jonah's relationship timeline firmly established. Superstore followed a group of employees at a big box store during their day-to-day activities. The series found comedy in what could be a mundane job by highlighting the mistakes made by employees, the ridiculous decisions made by customers, and the chaos that could ensue due to a big sale among others. It's a favorite for anyone who has ever worked in the retail industry.

The moment Jonah (Ben Feldman) decorated the ceiling with stars to give Amy (America Ferrera) a "moment of beauty" in the Superstore pilot, it was clear that the sitcom would be rooted in a love story. There were several times Amy and Jonah were relationship goals in Superstore, but it was a long and difficult road. The series spent years carefully crafting their relationship, allowing the characters to grow and attempt relationships with other people, which only made Amy and Jonah's endgame that much more satisfying. By examining their journey season by season, fans can discover how and when Amy and Jonah fell in love with each other.

Season 1

Jonah Falls For Amy (Not Knowing She's Married)

Jonah fell for Amy the day he started working at Cloud 9 and continued to fall harder every day after. What started as a crush in the pilot episode only grew as Jonah got to know Amy. Amy wasn't Jonah's biggest fan and actually thought he was the most annoying person she ever met because they disagreed on a lot of workplace issues. But after he gave her a ceiling full of stars to make her day feel different from the one before, Jonah began to grow on her - and that was only in the pilot episode.

Jonah didn't realize Amy was married until a few episodes later. Although Jonah was aware that nothing could happen between them, his crush on her didn't go away. Amy and Jonah spent most of their time bickering, but Garrett called what they had going on a "work flirt." That is true for most of the first season as the seeds are laid for them to be a successful pairing without pushing them too far.

One of the landmark episodes for them is actually "Shoplifter." In the episode, Amy brings her daughter to work with her when a babysitter cancels, and surprisingly, Emma and Jonah are able to get along when Amy is pulled away from the jewelry counter by Glen and Jonah has to help her cover up that her daughter is there. Not only does he help Emma when she gets her first period, but he also teaches Emma to play video games. Since Amy is originally so hesitant to leave Emma with him, his commitment to helping her daughter is sweet.

Season 2

Close Friends With A "Heat Of The Moment" First Kiss

Season two of the Amy and Jonah timeline proved that the more time they spent together, the closer Amy and Jonah got. It became clear to all the employees that Amy wasn't happy in her marriage, as her husband expected her to handle their financial burden, as well as to parent their daughter full-time. Adam wasn't the only person who mistreated Amy, and Jonah always stood up for her when the employees tried to take advantage of her.

The pair came to realize that they made a great team, and usually spent their entire shift goofing off with each other. Jonah helped Amy let loose, while Amy helped Jonah learn personal accountability. After learning that Amy and Adam were getting a divorce, Jonah accidentally called Amy "sexy," which led to them kissing in the middle of a tornado.

That kiss provided a cliffhanger of sorts for the end of season 2. Despite the show being a workplace comedy that explored the dynamics of several of the coworkers in the store, like the rivalry between Mateo and just about everyone and the mentorship between Amy and Cheyenne, the relationship that got the biggest spotlight in seasons 2 and 3 was the burgeoning one between Amy and Jonah. Nearly every episode made a point of showcasing their banter.

Season 3

Amy Confesses Her Feelings For Jonah & Their Relationship Takes A Romantic Turn

Things were awkward between Amy and Jonah after she tried to chalk up their first kiss to an adrenaline rush. Under the impression that Amy would never feel the same way about him, Jonah moved on and started dating their co-worker, Kelly. While it's unfair that Kelly, as happens with many of the third members of a love triangle in sitcoms, was used as a plot device, her relationship with Jonah was part of what made Amy realize her own feelings for him.

Amy realizing her own feelings leads to a huge fight between the two, in which Jonah admits that he waited around for her for two years. It's a cathartic moment for the audience, especially since other sitcoms might have waited another season before allowing the characters to admit how they felt about one another in the second season.

Once everyone's feelings were out on the table, it was only a matter of time before they both acted on them. It wasn't ideal for their first time together to be streamed to all the Cloud 9's in the world, but it was the perfect cliffhanger for the season. The situation even made "Town Hall" one of the best Simmosa episodes of Superstore. Things had never been easy for Amy and Jonah, so it was the perfect way to complicate their relationship the moment it began.

Season 4

Dating In Secret, Jonah Moves In With Amy

One of the most unrealistic aspects of Superstore is that Amy and Jonah still kept their jobs after having sex at work and streaming it to the public. That would have had serious consequences in the real world, even if they had never had any workplace mishaps, and they both had been written up in the past. But there would be no show without the main characters, so it made sense that the two were only suspended. To avoid any further gossip or repercussions at work, the two decide to date in secret at the start of season 4.

In fact, season 4 takes place after a bit of a time jump, which prompted complaints from some of the audience. The audience missed the entire beginning of Amy and Jonah's relationship, as they were already an established couple who had been dating in secret for a while before the season premiered. The show jumped right from Amy and Jonah as a will-they-won't-they couple to an established pair who didn't often demonstrate their affection.

Dating in secret, however, was a good move on their part, as their co-workers have a way of blowing things out of proportion. Soon, Amy discovered she was pregnant with her ex-husband's baby and Jonah promised he would be there for whatever she needed. Their relationship was eventually solidified when they moved in together, resulting in Jonah raising her child as his own.

Season 5

Jonah And Amy Decide To Move To California Together

Superstore season 5 showed how Amy and Jonah had become a vital part of each other's lives. They were both happier than they had ever been in a relationship, and there was very little drama between them. Fans were lucky enough to see a more domestic side of Simmosa, and they even brought Parker into work one day.

Of course, the downside to this for fans of the couple is that it meant there wasn't as much conflict for the duo. Instead, the bulk of the story focuses on their concerns about having their union accepted by the corporate office of the store and then, on the company being bought out by another corporation.

Jonah and Amy had become an established family, and it seemed like a proposal might be on the cards for the future. The season even ended with Amy getting a job offer in California and the two deciding to move there together. However, problems arose when Amy started having doubts about their future, which saw their once steady relationship become rocky.

Season 6

Break-Up, Make-Up, & Married With Kids

The Amy and Jonah timeline had something of a pause because America Ferrera decided to depart Superstore ahead of season 6. As a result, Amy and Jonah's relationship became complicated after America Ferrera's departure from Superstore. It's likely that the two wouldn't have broken up if the actor had stayed around, but Simmosa came to an end when Amy couldn't give Jonah a solid answer on his marriage proposal, and she moved to California alone. That meant Amy was missing for the majority of season 6.

Thankfully, Ferrera returned for the last few episodes and the show was able to make their endgame believable. Not only did they get back together, but their last appearance provided a flash-forward for the audience. It featured them as a married couple, tucking their kids into bed under a ceiling full of glowing stars. It was a beautiful full-circle moment and the most rewarding ending fans could've asked for. Amy and Jonah's relationship timeline in Superstore came to a satisfying ending for fans.
