Traffic check just sucked. Takedown is king.

Single event alone amplified the replayability so much.

EA release a remaster 2-pack of 3 and revenge you cowards.
You can strip out the *awful* licensed music, we won't mind.

Burnout 3 being stuck on old consoles is a crime against humanity. God I love that game

Yep, I love it so much that I own both PS2 and Xbox versions and still have those old consoles to replay it. EA really needs to bring this game back for modern systems.

2 > 3 > revenge > paradise. traffic check sucked but at least revenge had actual tracks.
the 360 version of revenge somehow aged worse than the xbox version though, peak 2005 green-brown-fake-HDR aesthetic. shame that's the only one that runs on BC

I'm glad I still have the OG Xbox version of Burnout Revenge.

Enthusiasts on forums like this are always bemoaning the lack of great arcade racers these days. Publishers don't want to take a chance on developing new titles in the genre because of market risk, it seems. Feels like there's an opening here: put some of the best Burnout, NFS, and Ridge Racer games into some remastered collections. Not as much investment on the publishers' part and fills a current hole in the market, even if it's a niche.

BO3 had my brother, uncle, his neighbor and I playing crash mode and going through races all the time in friendly competition. Takedown killed that feeling with it's new kickoff meter system and other little things that just weren't what we were feeling compared to 3. Miss those times tbh.
Personally, the only good thing about Revenge is that it reminds me of the launch period of Shadow of the Colossus lol. They shared a demo disc and I believe launched near each other?

I know this thread is pretty old, but i have been playing with both Revenge and Takedown (both on Xbox 360) and i must say Revenge is much better than Takedown. I have completed 100% Revenge and almost completed Takedown, but to me the world tour in takedown is pretty boring (or frustrating in some races).
The 100 crashes are way too easy, i think in only a handful of crashes i needed more than 2~3 attempt to get gold; there is no progression, it is basically just "take the 4X multiplier and some vehicles and you are done". Races are typically easy except for a few cases where they get extremely hard but not because the circuits are tricky or adversaries are tough, they get hard because you are deliberately crippled by a terrible car (US racer ? the worst car ever in the whole series) or because you are constantly taken down by things you cannot see and avoid (cars hiding behind a turn or a hill, adversaries hitting you from the back without any warning).
I know takedown is an XBox game designed for 480i video display, but basically you keep squirting your eyes at a 20 x 20 pixel area in the middle of the screen trying to decipher what that red or white pixel might be.
Revenge has its own flaws (similar to takedown actually) but at least you get a better graphics at 720p, the crashbreaker during races is a lot of fun and difficulty progression is more linear. Plus you can use the special cars in any race and they are indeed special also in the performances.

I really didn't like that you could plow through traffic. Burnout to me was always about weaving and slaloming.
Same. I liked the one specific mode about plowing traffic but I wish that they'd left the ducking and weaving in regular races.

Revenge made a lot or changes to the Crash mode I didn't like. I like how free-form it was in Takedown.
While it isn't BC on modern platforms, if you have a 360 you can buy the OG Xbox version of 3 for $10. Well worth it. Also IIRC Burnout Legends on PSP is basically a handheld remake of 3 (with extra tracks from 1 and 2) and it's still available on the PSN store if you have a Vita.

Crash in revenge are more like puzzle, you have to understand which vehicles you need to hit to cause the more extensive damage possible; and a crashbreaker 10 explosion is so much fun, my 5 years old kid goes literally mad for that,
Traffic checking in revenge is not one of its brightest moments, but it can be fun and one of the hardest race in revenge is indeed a traffic checking; road rage in takedown is too easy at the beginning (3 minutes to smash 8 cars) but then it gets way too hard with 20 or 24 takedown's always in 3 minutes. In revenge you need to keep a constant takedown rate (3 ~ 4 takedown's every 40 seconds) which is more doable and more linear in terms of difficulty.
I bought both Burnout's for XBox 360; takedown is actually emulated and I do not know if that is responsible for the significant frame drop in congested scene.
I also have both for PS2, but visually they are quite a step back.
